My third card for today, I assembled during the Superbowl.  It is another color challenge, but this time for ColorQ #18.  My colors may be a little brighter than asked for.  Yet, I had a lot of fun doing this card.  It put me in such a 'springy' mood, and I know we ALL could use some springtime about now!

I used my Sizzix Original flower die for all the flowers in all of the colors.  A small heart punch was used for the middle of the flower with a white pearl gem attached.  The card was completed with the 'all u need is love' sentiment stamp and ribbons.

Another card for 365 Cards.  This time for their Color Challenge #7.  During our days snowed-in last week, I got my sketch book out.  I haven't done that in YEARS!  I just began sketching various valentine pictures that I could eventually maybe make into digital stamps.  While sketching, I created some card sketch layouts too. This is one of them.  I was thinking about the back of an envelope.  Looking at the finished product, it also reminds me of a quilt square.

So the DP papers are triangles fitted together to resemble an envelope.  I also had sketched out a flower made from heart, and that is what I put in the middle, only I used my embossed Sizzlet heart die.  Then, I wanted something along the trim and as how I have not sewn on a card yet, I gave it a whirl.  It didn't end without me sticking at lest three of my fingers!  (I haven't sewn anything but a button in probably a year either).  Do you see a trend?

Anyway,  finished off the card with a stamped sentiment, pink bow and colored brads.

Photo Inspiration

 

  

A fun card to make with the inspiring door hanging on my front door to make for 365 Cards 'Love' challenge on Tuesday. 

I bought the door hanging at JoAnn Fabrics and immediately got inspiration for a card from it.  I made mine a little less country than the original.  I just liked the black/white DP paper I had but I stuck as closely to the inspiration other than the background colors.  The 'Love' sentiment/die is connected together with black decorative staples to resemble the black wire that connects the hearts and letters in the door hanging.  I continued that technique by stapling the ribbon to the top and bottom of the card.  I used a Sizzix heart texturz for the red cardstock and also the black cardstock.  Other extras included red gingham ribbon, white buttons and black embroidery thread.

Photo Inspiration -- Texture and Tile By Jason Kravitz

Well, I've been MIA again for a while.  Snowstorms will do that I guess, especially when you live in an area like the Triangle of NC where snowstorms are few and far between.  Growing up in West Virginia, we saw plenty of snow most every year and had plenty of snow days filled with sledding, snowman making and hot chocolate.  So, I was quite thrilled to finally get some significant snow (5 inches) in Cary this week   That is the most snow we have seen in eight years.

But, I digress.  Now that the snow has mostly melted, I am back to more important things....stamping and photography!  I did acquire a small mass of  photos from the storm, another reason for neglecting my card blog. I have been busy with my photoblog, ShutterSavvy,  which, now brings me on topic.

Over at Aminus3, host of my photoblog, is a myriad of photographers, both amateur and pro, who display their  photographic art daily.  One such fellow artist, Jason Kravitz, just happens to be the infamous creator and founder of Aminus3.  My reason for introducing him here is that he posted a photo on January 20th that inspired me to create a card.  As you see from his photo here, the color combo, as well as the various textures are things we card creators thrive upon for inspiration. 

 

I took the white cardstock for the top of the card, inked and distressed it and then added the soccer and star stamps.  On the bottom with the turqoise cardstock, I used the Cuttelbug mosaic emboss folder to get the tiled look and then inked it for more of a worn look.  Black ribbon, brads and black lettering for the sentiment were the finishing touches.  I hope I did his photo justice in my interprestation.

Design Dollies

Today another double challenge, but this time a double challenge on the same blog!  Design Dollies provides three different challenges each week ---  a color challenge, a sketch challenge and an element challenge.  You can participate in any of them, two or all three of them.  I tried out the sketch and color challenges this week.  I loved the colors and I thought the sketch was really interesting. 

Stamps:  Letter B.

Paper:  aqua, lime and white and DP from stash.

Ink:  Lime, aqua and jet black.

Extras:  Sizzix circle die cut; Nestabilities frame die; sponge(for applying ink to background paper for tie dye effect); white rick rack ribbon, green brad.

Two Cards for 2S4Y #44.

LUCK O' THE IRISH --

Well, I think I got in just under the wire.  One of these days I will get things done earlier.  However, I am early for the Color Throwdown challenge.  I'm not completely satisfied with the Irish card.  Now that I look at it I did forget one element for the sketch on the bottom.  I was going for something a little quick and started out by making the colors of the Irish flag. I also wanted to use the shamrock stamp alongside my sentiment, but it was too large and since I was running out of time, I chose shamrock gems instead.  Still, it was a fun card to make. 

Stamps:  Shamrock stamp and sentiment.
Paper:  green, orange and white cardstock.
Ink:  Pine.
Extras:  Nestability die, green brads, shamrock gems, green and orange ribbon.


LOVE --

The Love card I like a litlte better.  It is for the bonus challenge.  Although now you cannot see the image on the patterned paper as well, the heart columns I made with a heart punch and gell pen mirror the image of the pink hearts hanging off of green vines.  The color scheme is from Color Throwdown 76.  Again, I had to improvise a little on the colors and get them as close as I could.

Stamps:  NONE!
Paper:  Patterned paper, olive, pale yellow and raspberry cardstock.
Ink:  NONE!
Extras:  heart punch, olive gel pen; Sizzis skittle dee doo alpha die, rapsberry patterned ribbon.

Well, it's late and I'm up as usual, but not for much longer.

Color Q #16

A card for two challenges, CPS and Color Q Challenge 16.  A little challenging to combine all those colors in such a tiny card, but I did it.  I tried to find paper as close to the colors as possible. 

Stamps:  Cherish.
Paper:  Pumpkin, burgundy, raspberry, light pink and white cardstock.  DP - DCWV border strip.
Ink:  Versamark and burgundy emboss powder.
Extras:  buttons, brads, fabric flowers, clear gem, raspberry ribbon.

Celebrating You

Delightful Sketches #15

Well, it is really, really, REALLY late!  The boys wanted to stay up late to celebrate the end of the semester and so I decided to see how far I'd get too.  Interestingly enough, I'm the last to crash!  Never would have thought it, I outlasted my teenage sons at something!  Somewhere there is an award for such a thing and if there is not, there should be.  Perhaps it could prove an interesting addition to the 'Survivor' series....mothers outwitting and outlasting their teens!  hahaha  I digress.

Getting to the task at hand now.  This digital stamp at M&M Designz just cracked me up and I had to get it for this very special birthday card.  If you haven't visited that site, you should.  Judy, the designer, creates adorable digital stamps.  I knew when I started this card that it was going to have to contain lots of froo-froo and so the lace circle was used. And, I don't think it was any accident that I stumbled upon the sketch at Delightful Sketches, which turned out to be perfect for this project.

Stamps:  All Dressed Up digital stamp (M&M Designz).  Birthday Wishes, Inkadinkadoo, I believe.
Paper:  Red, purple and white cardstock.  Lavender DP.
Ink:  Digital stamp colored using Gimp on the computer. Staz On Jet Black for 'Birthday Wishes'.
Extras:  Cuttlebug emboss folder; Sizzix hat die; purple and white ribbons; red and purple gems; red feather.

LOVE INSPIRING

Obviously I did not get my creative day on Wednesday.  It fell apart pretty quickly.  And, Thursday was just as busy.  So, now that finals are over and there is a 4-day weekend, rainy and soggy as it may become, my creative flow can now commence!  You will have to excuse my lack of eloquence in my titles tonight.  It has been a very long and dreary day.  So I put a little sunshine in it myself in creating this card.

Object of Inspiration

Get Sketchy #21

 

Hopefully I got this under the deadline for Gets Sketchy #21 challenge.  I got the inspiration from a pre-Valentine trinket my hubby gave me last week, a simple vase of small roses, as seen in 'object of inspiration'.   I even used the ceramic heart vase as the template for the vase in my card.  I folded the paper and drew it along the crease and cut a small arc to slip the flowers inside. 

Stamps:  'Love' sentiment from Disney Princess stamps.
Paper:  DP:  Paper Pizzaz; red, light pink and green cardstock.
Ink: Versamark and silver emboss powder
Extras:  Heart decorative corner punch, EK Success; flower dies, Sizzix; flower emboss die,QuickKutz; Heart gems.

Chocolate Flopsey

365 Days - Day 325, Imagine This

Crafty Creations #50

'Nobody knows the truffles I've seen!"

Yet, I could get used to having those kinds of 'truffles'!  It was a very nice three day weekend here and I'm a little foggy about the days.  The boys are in finals, or at least one of them.  Patrick being a senior and no absences was exempt and has a ten day vacation.  It's just a 3-day school week for the other with a four-day weekend coming up before the new semester.  And we've had five days in the 60s!  So, I've been enjoying the sunshine.  But, as all good things must come to an end, rain is coming so I can get back to creating.

I remember making valentines as a little girl and doilies were always a staple.  They are hard to come  at least here in NC.  I had to go to three craft stores before I found some and even then there were just a few in the cake decorating section.  The one I used here was an old one I had in my supplies.  The red fabric is a swatch I found at a craft store.  I'm not much of a sewer, seeing as how it has taken me four years to make curtains for my bedroom and they are only half sewn.  Yet, there are some really pretty fabric swatches for just a dollar or two that work well for patterned paper.

I originally started making this card for the PPA #25 challenge, but couldn't steal myself away from the nice weather long enough to make the deadline.  So, I finished it for the 365 Cards Day 325 'Imgaine This' challenge theme  of chocolate and the Crafty Creations challenge, texture, in which you had to use at least three different textures.  I hope my doily, cotton fabric, velvet ribbon and slightly textured candy cardstock dies count for all the textures.

I fell in love with Flopsey the bunny when I won a challenge over at CPS a couple months ago and won a gift certificate to My Favorite Things.  So, I  have cupcake Flopsey and now Truffle Flopsey for Valentine's Day.  I just looove those ears! 

Stamps:  Sentiment and 'Flopsey' bunny from My Favorite Things stamps.

Paper:  Brown and white cardstock; red patterned fabric; white heart doilie.

Ink:  Blazing Red.

Extras:  Red velvet ribbon. Tag, circle, swirl dies. Heart template. White heart brad.

Tomorrow is a day full of creating!  I NEVER get a midweek day for that so I'm soaking it up, especially since the rain is coming too, speaking of soaking.

I got my  mojo on today for Mojo Monday #121 and even added some Color Throwdown to it for their challenge #75.  And it just may take me til deadline to get it posted since the Golden Globes are on.  I tried my best to get as close to the color combo as possible but am afraid the 'garden green' gave me some struggle.

Snowboardin' Celebration

Happy Saturday!  Wow, it's been a whole week since I posted anything and that long since I did any crafting.  The new year is proving to be a tad bit too busy!  Anyway, I am late posting this for the CPS challenge tonight, but I am submitting it anyway.  Took me a bit to get my bearings after a week away from the crafting table.  And, when I finished with this card, I realized I used the same colors as the last card I posted!  Oh well, everything just fell into place tonight so that's OK.

Again, I needed a masculine card.  I am beginning to think there are too many men in my family!  hahaha  I AM joking!  The snowboard digital stamp was great and I kept thinking of what else to do for a male teen birthday card and I was looking at birthday stamps and BAM!  Icing is like snow......so why not have the snowboarder 'snowboard' over the frosting of a cupcake.  So, I printed the cupcake on four different colors of cardstock, then pieced it all together and coordinated them with some of the paper strips behind the images.

Stamps:  Happy Birthday, Inkadinkadoo; Snowboarder digital stamp from Bird's Cards; cupcake digital stamp, Lindsay's Stamp Stuff.

I have LOADS of cards to do in the next few days as I did not get my Christmas cards finished and so they are becoming New Year's/Winter Blessings/Valentine cards.  There is always a way to improvise.

Nifty Fifty Birthday

 

CPS 148

I've been MIA from the blogging world most of this first week of the new year.  Getting back to reality always takes a push after the holidays.  It was a nice surprise to find my profile featured on 2Sketches4You this week too!  So a shout out to Laura and Kazan over there, thank you so much!  Hopefully if I had any new visitors on their behalf that they found me up and running after making some changes here for the new year.

I did find some time to get at least one card done this week.  My brother turned 50 this week and so I challenged myself again in making another masculine card.  Why are masculine cards so challenging?  Maybe because there is a limited amount of card making supplies out there to cater to the adult male gender?  Guess I will have to surf the net in my free time (that will be in 2020!) to find more masculine supplies before I need them again.

Yet, I digress a bit.  I made this card also for the CPS 148 challenge this week.  I love their simple designs that then you can embellish as little or as much as you want. Since I'm on a crafting budget and I blew that for supplies for Christmas cards and I'm number punch challenged, I used my computer to make the number fifty and cut it out.

Paper:  DP from DCWV.  Baby blue, cocoa brown and paprika cardstock.

Ink:  Timber Brown from StazOn for distressed, antique look around paper edges.
