"In Your Easter Bonnet..."

A festive Easter Bonnet for PPA's sketch challenge this week.  I titled this card after the song, The Easter Parade, a very popular Easter song .  At Easter, in the church where my father preaches, he started a tradition to get all the women to wear hats or bonnets on Easter Sunday.  Of course, the women were more than happy to oblige him, but on one condition......that he wear a 'bonnet' as well.  So, my father will wear a beret or a nice type driver's cap on Easter Sunday and have his picture taken with all the women in the church. Thankfully, he lives in WV and I do not have to partake of this tradition (I hate hats except for my Red Sox cap)! I am much happier making bonnets for cards.

I inked the edges of two layers of paper and the bonnet to give it a more old time spring feel since hats were all the rage many decades ago.

Easter Blessings!

Erin Go Bragh!

Erin Go Bragh!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Eve!

With the maiden name 'Harrah', I cannot overlook this holiday. Of course everyday of the year, I am proud of all of my heritage, but Irish just happens to be a bigger portion of it.  Interestingly enough, I just discovered that the majority of Harrahs in the U.S. back in 1920 resided in my home state of West Virginia. And yes, I always get asked if I am any relation to the Harrah's Casino family.  Probably somewhere in the distance, but sadly not close enough to reap any good benefits.

Well, I digress.  A green card today to celebrate tomorrow's holiday of Irish green!  I saw the challenge at Just Us Girls to do a flap card and decided to try it.  It was a lot of fun to make.  And the free bear digi stamp at Digi Doodle Shop's Best was so cute.  I did have some trouble with the magnet closures.  I couldn't find the right ones so I had to opt for the regular magnets.  Thus, I wound up putting one not just on the flap and back of the inside, but also behind the celery strip DP on the front.  With the layers of paper I had, two magnets were not strong enough to hold it shut.  And, to add some extra punch, I added the rope too and tucked the flap underneath.  The shamrocks inside were stamped, embossed and then cut out.  I double embossed them.

Stamps:  St. Paddy's Day Bear, a free download from Digi Doodle Shop's Best. 'Go Green' and Irish sentiment, Studio G. Shamrock stamp, Hampton Art.
Paper:  DP from stash.  Kraft, Dark Olive, Light Olive cardstock.
Ink:  Versamark,  green emboss powder. Water color pencils on digital bear stamp.
Extras:  Straw rope twine; green gems; Nestabilities Label four; Cuttlebug dot emboss folder; bracket style decorative scissors.

And so, an Irish blessing for all:

May you have love that never ends,
lots of money, and lots of friends.
Health be yours, whatever you do,
and may God send many blessings to you!

Eggstra Cheery

PPA30-KISS (Keep it Simple, Sweetie)

I am so loving playing around with all of these bright and cheery colors lately!  SPCC had another springy color combo this week and after winning last week, I decided I had to try again.  However, all of these colorful challenges is revealing that I am a bit DP challenged at the moment as far as springy and cheery patterns go.  Yet, I just pulled out my cardstock and embellished!  And, thus, I kept it simple in line with PPA's KISS challenge this week as well.

And, if you notice, I figured out my problem with adding links to the challenge images.  It's a tad bit complicated as I have to go back and forth from Mozilla to Opera.  I guess whatever works for now.

Have a Cheery Monday!

Bee Pink

Doodle Inspiration

A pink bee for Valentine's Day!  Not to brag, okay, maybe to brag a little......this has to be one of my favorite cards I've made so far.  I love the color combination.  Does that make me a true girlie girl or is it that since I live in a house of testosterone I never get to see much pink!  Either way, pink is fave.

As I mentioned in one of my posts from yesterday, I have been sketching and doodling some lately, which included drawing out some of my own card layouts and images for cards.  The 'doodle inspiration' here is one of my own and my inspiration for the card. I actually didn't stay true to my own sketch in that I did not add as many swirls and hearts mainly because there wasn't enough room and once I put it on paper it had a mind of it's own.  I knew I wanted to make the bee pink and black so the PPA color challenge this week was perfect.  And, then when I saw the sketch at CPS everything just came together.  That doesn't seem to happen often for me with my cards.  Usually I start creating one and then I get bogged down with alternative visions dancing around in my head.  One reason I dusted off my sketch book, to get them on paper at least for future use. I do believe I am going to have to use my bee again sometime soon!

Stamps:  Absolutely none whatsoever this time!
Paper:  Light and dark pink cardstock and DP from stash.
Ink:  Again, absolutely none.
Extras:  Heart doily, pink bubble gems, black patterned ribbon, black transparent ribbon, Wingo Zingo alpha, heart dies and swirl die from Sizzix.  The 'swirl' die is the tail from the Sizzix Bigz lovebird die.

Bee Happy! ♥♥♥

Holiday Birthday & Snow Peace

Holiday Birthday - 2S4Y 41

Today's first post is a birthday card for my dad whose birthday is December 23rd.  I like to try and give him regular birthday cards since his special day is around the holidays.  This time I did incorporate the Christmas colors into his card as well as his love of lighthouses.  This card was done for the 2 Sketches 4 You bonus challenge.  Don't know why but I skipped right over their first sketch of the challenge and went right for the bonus!

Stamps:  Lighthouse stamp and Birthday sentiment.
Paper:  Cream and red cardstock; DP green plaid and pine textured paper.
Ink:  Versamark with Rich Red emboss powder for sentiment.  Basic black for lighthouse stamp.
Embellishments:  Cuttlebug mosaic emboss folder; scallop punch; Sizzix swirl die cut; Sizzix photo corners; Le Plume markers on stamp; green brad and red plaid ribbon.

Snow Peace -- PPA21

In thinking about all the people snowed in today all over the country, my second card is a holiday winter theme.  It is all my own creation, sketch and all but I did it in mind for the PPA21 challenge of a winter wonderland.  In the back of my mind was this snowman face and after sketching it out, it's finally done.  He was very fun to create.

Stamps:  Peace sentiment.
Paper:  White and canary cardstock; star and blue stripe DP from stash.
Ink:  VersaMagic Cloud White and white emboss powder.
Embellishments:  Royal gel pen for trim around hat; White flocking powder; Sizzix star dies; buttons, thread and clear gem.

Happy Winter Wonders!

PPA13 Anything BUT A Card

TRINKET BOX
Here is my entry for the PPA 13 Anything BUT A Card challenge for this week ---- a small trinket and/or jewelry box. I just made it inside the deadline. WHEW! This little box created a few little problems for me. This was a box to begin with, I just recycled it and gave it a facelift. I am very pleased with the outcome other than the gluing problem it presented in gluing the box back on to the rest of it. Still trying to get the Monkey glue off my fingers! LOL! Anyway, I enjoyed this non-card challenge. It got me thinking about Christmas gifts and other projects other than cards I need to do.

Enjoy!

Birthday Wishes

Color Challenge PPA11

This is my first try at the PPA challenges. I love the color combinations of this challenge. One of the reasons I decided to enter this week. At first I was going to do something for Halloween, but just couldn't come up with anything I really liked. I had these flower dies in my stash and have been wanting to use them and they were the perfect color. The pearls are fake, an old necklace from years ago that broke that I kept to use for something crafty. You never know what you might be able to recycle later on.

Supplies I used:

Plum, olive and a pale pumpkin cardstock; Birthday Wishes stamp; Black ink with pearl lustre amethyst embossing powder from Stampendous!; Cuttelbug Happy Birthday emboss card; Sizzix Texturz 'diagnols'; silk ribbon; old 'fake' pearl necklace.
